Is Google Using Hidden Text on the Google Homepage?
Did anyone notice the new Google.com page design? In October Tech Crunch reported that Google is testing a new homepage on Google.com. The normal Google homepage with links to images, news and videos have now been replaced by a new spartan design where only the Google logo and the search box is visible.
Wait!
As soon as you move the mouse, the old Google page with all the links will fade in to replace the spartan intro.
And the million dollar question is…
Is Google using hidden text on their own homepage? Will Google ban it’s own homepage for this? Have Google updated the policy?
The simple answer:
Yes Google is using hidden text on the Google.com homepage. No they are not going to ban themselves (did you really think they would)?. And no I don’t think they have changed policy. They did allow some types of hidden text in the past even though I have never seen any clear rules on this, just some vague hints.
I think the new fade in Google.com layout is annoying, I don’t want a website to move while I.
I think it’s a bad move by Google with the fading page trick considering the many legit sites they banned in the past even for minor trespassing, and even if unintentional.
We might even get to laugh if the mindlessly automated Google machine uses its anti spam filters and decide to ban Google.com without giving the Googleplex even a warning in advance. Think about that for a moment.
Now I for one wouldn’t dare change my own homepages to do the same trick. I would feel no joy going to mighty Google begging on my bare knees for a reinclusion because of their fault.
Better safe than sorry in this case.
