Is Duplicate Content an Issue for SEO
When trying to get your website ranked for specific keywords, duplicate content can be a big hindrance in your efforts. The main reason for this is the fact that most of the major search engines main priority is to find new, fresh and unique content meaning duplicate content rather defies this fact. Has it ever occurred to you why search engines don’t really care about content that has already been crawled? Also, a person that is searching would find no benefit from countless results that contain the same content, would they? A big no is the only answer to that question.
But how do you find out if something is duplicate or not? And because duplicate content is not viewed too well by the search engines, you will want to keep on their good side. here’s how to do this in Google.
First, search Google for your site URL. Doing this will allow you to see all your sites pages that have been indexed by Google. Then proceed by clicking on each one of the links that comes up in this search. If a message appears on the subsequent pages with words to the effect of “to see the most relevant results we have omitted entries that are similar” you will then know that the omitted pages are what Google thinks are duplicate content pages.
After this you should actually click on the link that asks you to repeat the search but with the omitted results included. The pages that Google thinks are duplicates will then appear and therefore allowing you to rectify the matter in any way you see fit.
Although it is extremely difficult to have a 100% duplicate free website, you can help yourself by avoiding publishing reprinted things like articles from directories.
