search engine optimization is not difficult but it has to be done right. If you do the right things then you still might not succeed. The reason for that is that you have to do the right things in the right order.

1. The Right Keywords

The keywords that you choose for your search engine optimization activities greatly influence your online success. Deciding on the wrong keywords will make all your other seo Optimisation activities useless.

Choose your keywords wisely. Avoid using the too general one-word keywords. It is necessary for you to optimize your pages using higly targeted keywords in order to draw the right type of people. Getting more buyers instead of more visitors should be your number one objective. The more relevant the keywords are, the more effective they will be.

2. On-page optimisation

Once you know the keywords for which you want to be ranked, you have to optimize your web pages for these keywords. Optimize as many different pages for as many different keywords as possible.

It is important to make the right keywords appear on the right pages of your site. Also, make sure that the search engines will have no trouble parsing your pages.

Your website architecture is also an element of on-page optimization. Your website navigation should contain your keywords and all pages of your website should be linked in a meaningful way so that search engines can categorize your web pages.

3. Usability and conversion optimization

Even if your website gets hundreds of visitors per day, it still might not deliver sales because the web pages are not user friendly.

Your web pages should have an appealing design, they should be easy to use, they should create trust and they should make it easy to buy.

4. Link building

Creating good backlinks is the fourth step in search engine optimisation. In general, more than one web page has been optimized for a given search term so the web page with the best backlinks will be listed in the top results on Google.

The backlinks should target the same keywords as your on-page optimization. If you want to get high rankings for “car dealer knoxville” then your web pages should be optimized for that keyword and the links that point to your site should also contain that keyword.

All SEO Optimisation elements must be in place and they must be in the right order.

If you just have links then you won’t get sales if your web pages don’t convert. An optimized site using the wrong keywords will also not get the targeted audience.

A web page optimized even with the right keywords will not get high rankings without good and backlinks.

A great many web developers spend a lot of time and effort optimising their homepage, whilst pushing all of their backlinks and article links to it. This however is a mistake which could cost you a great deal of traffic, and ultimately business.

In most cases, websites should have link traffic pointing to deeper pages, not just the homepage. In usual circumstances, you would associate the homepage with your primary keyword, though the secondary pages linked to your homepage would be focused on long tail keywords, or secondary keywords, each of which should have their ownn linking strategy. By doing this your website will be full optimised, not just for your primary keyword.

The question to ask, which should be evident from your pages, is which keyword to focus on per page. Lets take the example if you had a website called ‘Radio Communications’ which had pages focused on ‘Radio Microphones’ and ‘Walkie Talkies’

The homepage of the website would be built, and marketed around the keyword ‘Radio Communications’, whilst the walkie talkies page would be focused around the ‘Walkie Talkies’ keyword etc.

Provided you then started an article and link campaign which focussed on each page topic, all with links back to the individual page, your website would become optimised fully. On occasion you could find that some optimised pages receive more hits and rank more highly (perhaps as they are less competitive) though this all helps with your optimisation strategy! For this reason (and for search engine spidering reasons) it’s vital to have links from page to page, helping your onpage optimisation filter through your website.

So don’t forget, though your website homepage is vital to your seo optimisation and link campaign, so too are the deeper pages which if you link to will create a fully optimised site the search spiders (and therefore visitors!) will adore!
